cate pt 1

"The moon fell down yesterday, breaking silence shifting earth." she mumbled
under her breath. No one ever considered such a ridiculous notion. Though she herself
felt safer at night, she could not even fathom the idea of her precious moon, the
very life and breath within her crashing like glass after a stone breaks the surface.
Scientists cannot place exactly what happened, whether it was a sudden blow from
a stray mass of planetary discharge or a gradual fall. Of course they should
have known and paid more attention. But who truly cares for such nowadays?
No one realized how fragile the moon was until they found erratic shards of it's
glass-like surface in Turkey & Japan & other seemingly random places.

Cate looks out her window to see nothing but the flourescently lit town. 'No more
black nights,' she breathes a grief stricken sigh of bittersweet relief. She was
very afraid of the dark recently. The dark and darkness seemed as two separate
entities all together. The dark being simply the absence of light. Darkness a more
frightening, gripping, murderous entity. The dark is innocent. Darkness's evils
know no bounds. the moon could no longer reveal to Cate her silly, childish fears.
Without her light to show her fear was not necessary...

"No," she told herself. "not again. Never again." she dried the subtle hint of tears.
Cate, known as Cate or Cadence by her many acquaintances, was afraid of many things.
Her bravado made her cocky and imposing. "Indifference is better than emotion" she
always told herself. "Emotion is weakness" the old cliche rung true in her ears.
She truly did not want to cry. Crying is inconvenient, so she said. As is emotion.
